Biologist calls lyme disease a plague (video)

[2:20] The natural disaster in our area is not hurricanes, or tornadoes, or earthquakes; it is Lyme disease,” says MIT associate professor and pioneer in genetic engineering Kevin Esvelt, describing the severity of the tick-borne illness in the Northeast. In Nantucket, Massachusetts, 15% of residents have been afflicted with the disease, which can cause fever, rash, facial paralysis, an irregular heartbeat, and arthritis.

 

Cats could help scientists better understand human cancer, study says

Google wants to release 32 million mosquitoes in California, Florida

Source: Fast Company, June 1, 2026. Link. Google is seeking federal approval to release 32 million mosquitoes in California and Florida over the next two years. It’s part of an ongoing initiative called the Debug Project, which aims to control mosquito populations to cut down on mosquito-borne diseases using male mosquitoes infected with a naturally occurring bacteria called Wolbachia.
