New federal bill wants to help more lost pets find their way home

It would direct the Secretary of Agriculture to work with eligible animal shelters to help cover the cost of microchipping dogs and cats before they are adopted or transferred, with up to $5 million authorized annually for fiscal years 2026 through 2030.
