Same strategy different decade does not remove the barriers that undermine purpose <Link>. This theme supports the recent assertions from Gershon Alaluf DVM, MBA, DBA, about challenges in veterinary medicine <Link>, who says, “Veterinary medicine takes the most fit among us and makes them feel like the misfits.”
Over the next few weeks, Alaluf intends to share what he experienced and learned researching a system that wears down the very people it was built to celebrate, then looks for more exactly like them.
In the first installment, Alaluf says, “Veterinary medicine breaks the assumption that the people who let you into vet med roughly represent the world you will actually work in.” He calls for fundamental changes in how would-be DVMs are selected and questions the infrastructure to choose and train them.

The very traits that make someone a wonderful veterinarian, the empathy, the perfectionism, the need to fix it, are the same traits that cause them to buckle under practice conditions . . .
