The need and desire for local dairy products (milk, cheese, kefir, etc.) is present across the U.S., even in Alaska. Dairy goats provide a viable option for small-scale farms in all 50 states. Having resources to share, compare and contrast helps producers make decisions for their herds, regardless of size.
Raising livestock looks different in Alaska than it does anywhere else in the U.S., so comprehensive guides for raising different types of animals are a must, says, Jim Vinyard. Dairy goats are becoming all the rage as local producers take advantage of Alaska’s Herd Share program and use animals that are better suited for silvopasture and smaller land allotments.
