Study explores why wounds and foul odors attract screwworms
Source: BEEF, July 28, 2026. Link. A Colorado State University professor’s research may be key to protecting livestock and wildlife from a flesh-eating parasite. In a USDA funded project scientists are studying foul-smelling substances to figure out what attracts the New World screwworm to its favorite meal (open wounds) so better lures for trapping this serious threat to the livestock industry can be developed.
Speeding saves barely any time, new study finds
Source: VICE, July 23, 2026. Link. Researchers at the University of Minnesota found speeding saves little time while wasting fuel, increasing emissions, and making roads more dangerous. Drivers who complied with posted speed limits on highways and arterial roads increased their travel time by an average of 54 seconds per day, based on a mean daily driving distance of 28.6 miles. That works out to just over six minutes per week.
