Scientists say animal consciousness needs a rethink
Source: Nature, April 19, 2024. Link. Many birds and mammals behave in ways that suggest they might be conscious. Beyond vertebrates, researchers are expanding their investigations of consciousness to a wider range of animals, including octopuses and even bees and flies.
Rendering is recycling

April 21st was National Rendering Day which celebrates the sustainable nature of the rendering industry and its contributions to food waste and loss prevention, and environmental protection and sustainability. As much as 50 percent of animals are not consumed by humans so rendering recycles what would have been waste. The processes convert what would have been food waste into material for use in a multitude of new products such as nutritious pet food and animal feed, industrial goods, and biomass-based diesel.
