The authors believe that in today’s “always on” work cultures, employees feel they have no choice, even if their managers’ rhetoric and organizational policies seem to encourage unplugging. The result is that employees end up feeling ashamed for taking breaks from work.
INSIGHTS: Reactive business environments such as veterinary clinics, customer service departments and retail locations struggle with managing workflow, workloads and service levels. Still, the culture must consistently measure and address if what’s in the employee handbook is what is truly playing out for employees.
