Many pet owners are not aware that some scents are toxic to animals until after a disturbing trip to the vet with an ill pet. Pets can become sick from essential oils due to compounds called phenols that are easily absorbed through the skin, nose and mouth.
Toxic scents and essential oils to avoid include tea tree, clove, citrus, cinnamon, Ylang Ylang, pine, eucalyptus, wintergreen and pennyroyal.
