Regardless of the pathogens, transporting increases risks for all livestock. Livestock trailers pose a significant risk for pigs, cattle, horses and poultry as they are moved from one location to another. Cleaning with scoops, forced air or pressure washers is as best a first step to controlling pathogen spread from remaining residues before the trailer is used next.
Virox® Animal Health, an AHD sponsor, provides a detailed guide for how to use Intervention® in livestock trailer washes. The guide reminds us that trailer washing is an inside, outside and cab process critical to pathogen management.

It is crucial to ensure that the disinfectant remains wet on all surfaces of the vehicle for the duration of the contact time
