The VetWatch Commentary thru August 14th remains positive while a bit softer. Beyond the economic measurements, the veterinarian and pet owner sentiments section draws attention to findings from an eighth wave of M/A/R/C research and information from Packaged Facts and MRI-Simmons National Consumer Study that may disrupt some generalized assumptions:
- Married-with-children households aren’t the prime demographic for growth in dog-owning households between 2011 and 2021
- While the number of households with 65- to 74-year-olds grew by 60 percent, the number of dog-owning households in this age bracket grew by 78 percent.
- While the number of retiree households grew by 35 percent, the number of dog-owning retiree households grew by 67 percent.
Our takeaway? Don’t overlook the childless, single, retired and aging pet caretakers.”
