CBD use in dogs continues to grow. A 2025 survey found 7.3 percent of 47,000 dog owners had given their pets CBD, mainly for arthritis, seizures or dementia. In fact, Dr. Jennifer Quammen, AVMA president, says she gets asked about it every day. Research remains limited, short-term and sometimes company-funded. Despite these conditions, sales of CBD pet products are expected to reach north of $500 million by 2031.
Experts in this article stress the importance of discussing CBD use in a pet before doing it, avoiding products that make explicit health claims and managing expectations. Keep in mind, there’s even less research on how CBD can work with cats.
