The internet, word of mouth and possibly breed correlations spread inaccurate information about toxins says Renee Schmid, DVM, DABVT, DABT. Pet proofing helps. Safety checks of homes and garages needs to be done every year to remain pet friendly.
Schmid recommends veterinary professionals let clients know where they can find reliable information, like the poisons list available on Pet Poison Helpline’s website.

INSIGHTS: Current supply chain challenges often force brand changes. It is possible that a new brand in the home or garage could be a new poison as well.
Pet Poison Helpline created Toxin Tails to educate the veterinary community and pet lovers on the many types of poisoning dangers facing pets, both in and out of the home. All the pets highlighted in “Toxin Tails” have been successfully treated for the poisoning and fully recovered. Consider routinely adding a link to the Pet Poison Helpline, Toxin Tails or similar resource as you develop social media, websites and newsletters.
