Thrush, which thrives in wet, unsanitary conditions, affects the frog of the horse’s hoof. Often the ailment is noticed by a strong odor and a dark, crumbly substance in and around the frog.
INSIGHTS: *The frog is a part of a horse’s hoof, located on the underside, which should touch the ground if the horse is standing on soft footing. It is triangular and extends midway from the heels toward the toe. It covers around 25 percent of the bottom of the hoof.
