Ceva Animal Health U.S. was a founding sustaining sponsor during Animal Health Digest’s early years. Back then, we offered AHD readers resources on semiochemicals and pheromones, including the vomeronasal organ, and how pheromone science can provide options to reduce the negative effects of emotional responses in our animals.
Fast forward to last Sunday when I fulfilled a lengthy search for a new canine companion. A 7-month-old, F1b Morkie male became available as his owner wanted to rehome him.
Preparing for the 3-hour drive to get the pup, I remembered the articles we featured for Ceva. I found a remaining bottle of Adaptil®. After cleaning and drying the travel kennel, I sprayed it and the kennel mat, then put some on his bed area in the house. What Adaptil® remained went into the SUV.
Before the owner and I finished our exchange, the new pup was quiet in the travel kennel. No anxiousness, no whining. A break seemed logical after 90 minutes on the road. I then let him sit up front with me. New puppy syndrome, right?
Within 10 minutes the quivers and anxiety showed up. I sprayed three puffs into the SUV air thinking it might help. It did. The pup settled into the passenger seat and rode quietly for the rest of the trip. Arriving home after dark, the pup surveyed his new home without issues and slept through the night. That’s him resting in a desk drawer in my office as I read and write for animal health pros. I’ll share more after a grooming, vaccine update, heartworm test and so on. A name is coming soon.

INSIGHTS: Most of the content on the Animal Health Digest website spanning five years of curation remains active and mostly evergreen.
Thank you to Ceva Animal Health U.S. for their early commitment to AHD and the education it continues to provide animal health professionals. Why I wanted a Morkie again? Again, is the reason.
