In a recent blog post, Bill Wagner, DVM, took a stab at what he thinks veterinary medicine will be 10 years from now. Much of what he projects is realistic, being created or in progress. The key will be to make the most of the customer experience and transition veterinary team members.

1) Better technology integration and flexible care models
2) Pet health insurance and concierge models become the norm
3) Paraprofessionals as providers
4) Increased specialization, and possibly a fragmentation of the degree
5) The student debt crisis reaches a breaking point
6) Consolidation continues and rural communities face a crisis of access to care
7) Pet life expectancy and quality of life continue to improve with access to higher quality of
care and adoption of predictable healthcare expense models

INSIGHTS: Predicting the future is difficult, especially in an industry where hindsight is rarely 20/20. Wagner nicely focuses on competencies needed to meet future development.
