Finally! A federal judge has ordered the FAA to review seat sizes and legroom on commercial airlines. Flyers Rights, an advocacy group had said it is concerned that small airline seats are a safety hazard, putting passengers at risk for conditions such as deep vein thrombosis.

Flyers Rights gave the court evidence that the average width of airplane seats has declined from 18.5 inches in the early 2000s, to 17 inches by about 2005.
INSIGHTS: By comparison, current standard interior door openings are 24 inches. Prior to 1990, utility or closet doors could have been 18 inches.
