As a leadership mentor, I am often asked for advice about a wide range of business issues. The temptation is to immediately try to answer the questions. I have learned the best mentors slow down and ask a few of their own questions before trying to answer the questions they were asked.

They are pattern matching. The Giver will often give you the advice that comes with the most cognitive ease. The simplest advice, instead of the most correct advice.
INSIGHTS: The questions you ask will reveal the context of the issue at hand and allow you to provide the best advice instead of the simplest advice.
