Instinct’s survey, the State of Emergency and Specialty Veterinary Care, reports on these practices separate general veterinary practices. In addition to hiring and workload challenges, the report identifies ways these practices are streamlining workflows and adopting new technologies.
A majority (75 percent) of emergency and specialty veterinary staff saw positive improvements from adopting new technology in 2023, including improved efficiency, increased accessibility for clients, and/or enhanced patient monitoring.

In hospitals that reported zero turnover in the last 12 months, 47 percent implemented new cloud-based PIMs and 59 percent implemented digital treatment sheets in the last year.
INSIGHTS: The survey found that team expansion, technology-related investments and time off for mental health and wellness have the strongest correlations to higher employee morale and retention.
