Animal health pros are familiar with the transitions from treatment to prevention that occurred in dentistry <Link>. Driven in part by advancements in technology, a modern general practice dentist is heavily focused on healthy oral care and preventing dental decay.
A Health Affairs study indicates human patients are seeking similar care from their primary care physicians despite questions about the frequency and value of preventive visits. We noted the comments about how periodic preventive visits can help establish patient-provider relationships and improve intermediate health outcomes.
As people become more focused on prevention strategies, one must wonder if animal health pros will embrace the growing prevention mindset with animal owners.”
The share of primary care visits focused on preventive care nearly doubled between 2001 and 2019, with the steepest growth among Medicare beneficiaries, the Health Affairs study found. The growing prevalence of preventive visits could lead to more time for primary care physicians to provide patients with evidence-based counseling and other preventive services.
