During a recent visit to the grocery, I picked-up a copy of Better Homes and Gardens magazine. A one-page article featuring a Pug titled, “Happy Teeth” caught my eye. It referenced Jan Bellows, president of the Foundation for Veterinary Dentistry.
My surprise was under the heading, “The Right Tools” in the right-hand column. Number 1 called out MAXI/GUARD® Oral Cleansing Wipes. As soon as I got to the car, I called Karlin Yaeger at Addison Biological Laboratories. They too, had been surprised by the inclusion of their product in this magazine with a circulation of 7.6 million.

Karlin Yaeger, Addison global sales manager, said, “We are very pleased to have our product listed in Better Homes and Gardens. Its circulation ranks in the top five for subscription publications. We first learned of the article when a pet owner contacted us to learn how to buy our Oral Cleansing Wipes.” Yaeger and his team are reviewing their inventory forecasts against production timelines in anticipation of increased demand.
INSIGHTS: It is time to embrace home dental care as a first line of defense. In “Dental month; long in the tooth,” I wrote about the perpetual February dental month vs. promoting daily dental care, from first visits throughout a pet’s life. Checking teeth while discussing pet dental care should be as routine as taking temperature and blood pressure readings during our own doctor visits. The action items here are: 1) actively discuss and promote home dental care, 2) dispense products veterinary teams trust.
