Fox hunting or riding to the hounds is a long-held tradition of the fall. Riders gather, don stock ties, jackets and tall boots, then tote traditional whiskey flasks to ward off chills or the discomfort of a spill. Many hunts no longer chase live animals. They instead follow a pre-determined drag scent trail.

It may sound extreme, but fox hunting is as extreme as the rider wants it to be – the group is divided into ‘fields” – with the riders looking for a good gallop and some jumping up at the front, while the riders wanting a more sedate adventure hang out at the back and can stick to just walking and trotting.
