National Pet Dental Health Month is celebrated in February to reinforce the importance of pet dental health and as a reminder for pet owners to practice routine oral care on their pets. It is sponsored by the American Veterinary Medical Association.
Call it dental care or oral care, it is a critical component of healthy pet management at home, in veterinary practices and pet care facilities alike. Its importance to prevention of health issues can be compared to vaccines and flea, tick and heartworm preventatives.
Every animal health pro has reasons to discuss oral care. Dental disease is expected in 3 out of 4 pets’ mouths after 3 years of age.”
