Commentary
We sometimes see consumer-facing content that misses the mark. Sadly, thousands of pet owners will read this and, trusting the internet, act on some of the suggestions. Here are three of the eight suggestions that were not well thought out:
- Buying pet food in bulk: Economies of scale from big bags of dog food diminish when not used up within four to six weeks <Link>.
- Free vaccination schedules: The rationale shared here is flimsy. Semi-annual exams are part of reducing the risk of illnesses.
- Spay your puppy immediately. Spay/neuter decisions are not universal. Breed, age, and other factors determine whether or when the time is right.
Not included were pet insurance options that handle accidents and illness coupled with wellness plans as a responsible budgeting option.
