Holiday events, traditions and gatherings frequently center on food. For this Midwesterner, this often meant special treats and recipes from grandmothers, aunts, uncles and other relatives. Certain foods never seemed to be prepared as well as elder relatives used to do. Often, those recipes disappeared with those relatives after they passed on.
Beyond hamburgers and steaks, beef is often passed-by, according to Margaret Coleman, Checkoff-Certified Angus Beef assistant director of digital marketing. Consumers cite “not enough time” and “don’t know how” and other reasons for not roasting beef cuts, even though almost three in 10 admit they have no idea how long the process takes.

Nearly a quarter of consumers say they’ve never cooked a beef roast, and 43 percent cook one roast or fewer per year, according to a joint Beef Checkoff-Certified Angus Beef (CAB) brand survey. CAB launched Roast Perfect, a free app for smartphones and tablets designed to help consumers easily buy, prepare and enjoy a variety of beef roasts. The app is available for Apple and Android devices.
INSIGHTS: Roast Perfect may not replace great-grandmother’s special roasting pan, rubbing methods and spices, but maybe it will help you rediscover a tradition or start a new one. Happy Holidays!
