Scott Weese, DVM, shares ways to determine which dogs need the canine influenza vaccines most since our industry continues to see shortages in flu vaccine supplies. Dogs considered to have increased risk of severe disease include seniors, pregnant, immune compromised, brachycephalic and those with significant cardiac or respiratory disease.
Canine influenza is one potential contributor to the canine infectious respiratory disease complex so optimizing CIRDC vaccinations is important. Vaccines are available for some of the CIRDC organisms, including canine influenza viruses (H3N2 and H3N8), canine adenovirus 2, canine distemper virus, canine parainfluenza virus and Bordetella bronchiseptica <Link>.
