Arden Moore shares information from two veterinarians that will help some dogs with arthritis. Both agree that keeping dogs trim is a top priority.
Food heals or harms . . . what and how much you put in a dog’s food bowl does impact the dog’s quality of life.”
Source: Dogster, July 8, 2019. Link. Jean Hofve, DVM, identifies these five safe “arthritis-fighting” foods:
- Wild-caught salmon (not from fish farms), sardines or herring
- Leafy green vegetables
- Blueberries, cranberries and apples
- Whole ground bone-in chicken, game birds or other poultry
- Green-lipped mussels
INSIGHTS: We’ve included this article given the growing trends in natural foods. It is not clear if Hofve is talking about raw poultry or not. Clearly, the average pet owner will not have a grinder sufficient for grinding the bones as noted. Pet owners might consider crushing the bones and using them to create the bone broth which (in our experiences) is a great top dressing for kibble and managing a dog’s feeding schedule.
