Schirmer tear test-1 is the standard test for keratoconjunctivitis sicca (ie, KCS, dry eye) in dogs, but a third of veterinary ophthalmology community members surveyed do not consciously notice eyelid position during testing. While using a consistent open or closed eyelid technique is appropriate for STT-1, the small study reviewed here revealed manual closure of the eyelids during STT-1 in dogs resulted in higher values.
