The designation of October as pork month marks a time of year when hogs were traditionally marketed. The United States is the third-largest pork-producing country, following China and the European Union. Pork is safe, efficient, environmentally friendly and a superior source of protein.

According to an analysis by the USDA, pork tenderloin contains the same amount of fat and slightly fewer calories than the same serving of skinless chicken breast. Three ounces of cooked pork tenderloin have fewer calories than the same sized serving of chicken breast and beef eye or round steak.
