Although NSAIDs can alleviate postoperative pain in healthy cats, potential adverse effects on kidney perfusion often discourage use of them in analgesic protocols. Berit Fischer, DVM, DACVAA, CCRP, shares results of a study that examined the effects of preoperative NSAIDs on renal function.

Until further studies elucidate risk in anesthetized, hemodynamically compromised patients, cautious use of preanesthetic administration of NSAIDS in cats is recommended.”
