A new Form I-9, Employee Information and Verification, is now available, according to the Society for Human Resource Management. It is required by law for employees to work in the United States. A new version of that form hopes to make this process more straightforward for practice owners and managers. Practices have until Jan. 21, 2017 to start using the new form. Previous versions will become invalid after this date.

Form I-9 is used for verifying the identity and employment authorization of individuals hired for employment in the United States. All U.S. employers must ensure proper completion of Form I-9 for each individual they hire for employment in the United States. This includes citizens and non-citizens. Both employees and employers (or authorized representatives of the employer) must complete the form.
