It helps with the alphabet soup that is part of swine research and management, and in this case, where perceived redundancies are actually synergistic.
The authors share that the U.S. swine industry benefits from two nationally recognized disease/pathogen-monitoring initiatives: the Morrison Swine Health Monitoring Project and the Swine Disease Reporting System. While both programs support swine health decision-making, they collect different types of information and answer different epidemiological questions.
