Sandy Stuttgen, DVM, shares perspective on nematode management during different weather conditions and grazing approaches. Ostertagia, Cooperia, and Haemonchus nematodes’ life cycles occur within cattle and on grass. Using fecal egg counts and knowing when the L3 larvae will be most prevalent can help producers manage worm loads.
As a rule of thumb, when weather conditions support a morning dew, larvae are up on the grass waiting to be ingested.

INSIGHTS: Share this information about grazing practices and worm loads with producer clients using a Zoom meeting hosted by the veterinary clinic. Producers will respect the outreach and learning how their pasture management efforts affect parasite management.
