One skill that every effective leader has mastered is asking the right questions. Obviously, this is very helpful when you need information to make a well-informed decision. It is also helpful to check your assumptions when you think you have all the information before deciding. A simple acronym can insure you ask the right questions.

The ability to solve problems, resolve differences and capture opportunities involves these listening skills coupled with another skill, the ability to analyze a situation. This analysis requires asking the right questions to clarify problems, needs, wants and opportunities.
INSIGHT: Asking about the consequences of taking no action will often help others realize that the pain of staying the same is much worse than the perceived pain associated with the change and will lessen the fear of failure – the number-one impediment to change.
