The Asian giant hornet has been found in the Pacific Northwest and North American honey beekeepers are notably alarmed. Asian hornets feed on other insects including honeybees and are capable of quickly destroying hives. They nest in the ground and can be distinguished by their yellow heads, body length of nearly two inches length and a wingspan of up to three inches. Dormant over the winter, now is the time they emerge.
