The Agricultural Media Summit took place July 30th through August 2nd in Palm Springs, Calif. The nation’s largest gathering for ag media is a joint meeting of Agricultural Communicators Network, Livestock Publications Council and Ag Media Council. A few highlights from the event mirror the challenges animal health pros face.
First, the panel discussion, “How Different Generations Write, Lead and Manage” pointed out that affirmations, a variety of experiences and the need to feel heard at work are important for younger (and older) generations of employees. Also, GenZers are generally phone call-adverse and tend to reach out to strangers via email and social media before calling. Check out the Terrain-sponsored graphic summary here. Link.
Second, the session, “Addressing Misinformation/Disinformation in Ag,” was applicable across the animal health industry. Richard Gearhart, associate professor in journalism at Cal Poly University, explained how fake news has been around forever and it’s all our responsibilities to produce the most correct information possible. This is much more important now because everything we write and create becomes part of artificial intelligence databases. To date, AI does not differentiate between accurate and inaccurate information, so we’re all responsible for making it as accurate as it can be.
