COMMENTARY
Prepping this AHD Bulletin, I looked for inspiration to underscore the objectives of curating for the animal health industry. Urgency and the need to adapt are strong points of inspiration now, along with biosecurity.
One third of 2020 is gone. Two hundred thirty-two days remain until 2021 begins. For society, much remains in limbo. As an industry, animal health pros lean forward to define the NEXT NORMAL. The inevitable forces of change cannot be ignored.
Each new day will define the NEXT NORMAL. It always has.”
There is a character to our industry that is reemerging and being rediscovered. Beyond brands, quotas, 10Ks or competition to be the biggest or the best, animal health pros now find themselves focusing on the urgent while knowingly letting the important sit on a back burner.
More than two months into a pandemic, an immediate Covid-19 cure is not imminent. Confusion exists state to state and country to country. Boundaries are blurred. Processes we have trusted cannot be or must be augmented. Veterinary professionals and animal health pros supporting them are core to holding our food supply chains together and diminishing risks of animal-to-human contact for disease vectors, in general.
But what defines core? It is people working with people to deploy mutual resources for and to empower the quality of life. Essential life qualities for humans and the animals they care for and depend on.
Michael Thompson’s discussion of phrases people love to hear crystallize core. See what you think. Set aside seeking what was and lean into the NEW normal with a smile.

I’ve reached that weird stage in my life where I want the people around me to be happy and feel good about themselves. I’ve spent the majority of my life wanting people to think that I’m special. Flipping the script, and doing what I can to make other people feel special has taken some getting used to~ – Michael Thompson
