Our industry is full of success stories, many which never get told. Jennifer Shrike shares a story of a young woman whose childhood might have sent her spinning out of control. Instead, an innate drive, plus a few empathetic persons and a culture of helping hands sustained and buoyed Gracee Workman.
From a bed on a concrete floor, to managing the Ohio State University swine farm, her story is inspirational and a reminder to lend a helping hand.

INSIGHTS: I’m embarrassed to admit I skipped over this story a short time ago. Returning to read more about African swine fever, Shrike’s words jumped out at me. We need to celebrate the Gracee Workmans in our world as much or more than we celebrate the next promotion of an industry colleague.
I recently thanked a drive-in restaurant employee for wearing a mask. To my surprise, the young lady nearing the end of her shift said, “That is the kindest thing anyone has said to me today.” Whew! You never know what the other person is experiencing.
