AFJ editors are making good use of the data collected in the 2025 American Farriers Journal Business Practices Survey. Kudos for sharing the data in bytes and keeping the information shareable and running weekly. Examples include:
- 47 is the average age of full-time farriers
- 42 percent of farriers rank Facebook effective in marketing their business
- 85 percent say certification created a positive response from clients, DVMs,
- 71 percent recommend equine products to horse owners
- 26 percent of horses handled by full-time farriers are backyard horses

INSIGHTS: Farriers indicate their relationships with veterinarians are essentially neutral. Given the influence farriers have with clients, veterinary teams should consider treating farriers as advocates for preventative and well-being care. Proactively contacting clients quarterly could improve interactions over time.
