Foot rot in cattle can be a problem whether conditions are wet or dry. The bacterium responsible for it is always present in healthy skin. But it needs an injury or wet skin to cause problems. With ongoing drought in some regions and waterlogging in others, reminding beef and dairy cattle owners to be on the lookout for foot rot is good counsel.

There are several antimicrobial products that are labeled for treatment of foot rot in addition to commercial vaccines that are approved for the use of controlling foot rot. While the review on vaccines have been mixed, the responsible use of antimicrobial products remains very effective, especially when early treatment is administered.
