From eye contact to empathy, business leaders shared concerns about employee business behaviors in a survey conducted by ResumeBuilder.com. The results show that employees need refreshers on how to do such things as hold workplace conversations, dress appropriately, take lunch breaks and even make eye contact. Some employers are now offering etiquette classes.

INSIGHTS: We noted the survey results referenced that all age groups need training on:
- having appropriate workplace conversations
- using discretion when talking about politics or religion
- taking other people’s beliefs into consideration
- treating people with respect and empathy
- learning how to make polite and appropriate eye contact
This begs the question: If these skills are relevant to the performance of their job how did these people get hired in the first place?

Sadly many people hide their true nature during interviews and in the first weeks after being hired. It’s when they become “comfortable” at work, or something in the media comes up that they are opinionated about, that they show their true beliefs and behaviors. Unprofessional behavior must be addressed quickly and employees made to understand how to behave in their workplace.
