Collectively, swine veterinarians are helping producers and the swine industry deal with added regulation and transparency issues driven by consumers. But, recent discussions at the American Association of Swine Veterinarians annual conference included reminders that their primary role is to advocate for the pig and pig caretaker.

Fundamentally, the swine veterinarian still has the No. 1 job of keeping the pig healthy. The practices, tools and medications may have evolved, but the immense level of care has never disappeared.
INSIGHTS: The discussion at this gathering was not about how to make a fast buck. Rather, the deeper issue remains of how to effectively help America’s pig farmers to do right for the pig by leveraging science and practical measures to produce wholesome, safe pork for the global table.
