Cliff Faver, DVM, addresses how easily pet owners get led astray when it comes to skin issues. His discussion surrounds all the advice people readily espouse on Facebook without asking basic clarifying questions.
<speaking to groomers> . . . the most important job we do is restore the skin back to normal. The issue here is that the body is fighting us. That is why it is also important to be working hand in hand with a veterinarian.

INSIGHTS: Faver is ultimately issuing a challenge to veterinary teams and groomers alike. Synergy, not separatism is where animals will benefit. Consider including the following questions in recording clinic records:
- How many times a year does your animal see a groomer?
- Which groomers do you use most frequently?
- Have you included the practice name and contact information in your groomers’ records?
Don’t interact with groomers? Consider hosting an open house for them at your clinic. With Covid-19 in mind, offer a 30-to 45-minute clinic staff-guided meet-greet, a small tour and a short educational program for small groups. Involve a manufacturer or two to help defer costs or provide swag. Branded face masks anyone?
