Artificial breeding might become illegal should a ballot initiative in Colorado be enacted by the state’s citizens says Corey Geiger. He reviews the legislation that would call an animal, “any living, nonhuman creature.” The revised definition would then state, “. . . not limited to, a dog, a cat, a horse, livestock . . ,” says Geiger.
Source: Hoard’s Dairyman, May 10, 2021. Link. Geiger postulates animal rights activists could take advantage of the definitions of sex acts between humans and animals which he quotes are described as, “. . . also includes any intrusion or penetration, however slight, with an object or part of a person’s body into an animal’s anus or genitals.”
INSIGHTS: Geiger’s article is accurate, despite some inflammatory license. AI practices are well established as being responsible, safe and, in many cases, less injurious to breeding animals than natural service.
Let’s do our diligence as animal health pros to ensure safe, cost effective and accepted agricultural animal husbandry practices are not erased by this type of legislation.
