I usually tell people to choose one that you like because that’s going to make it more enjoyable, but in general, some of the American breeds like Rhode Island Reds, Plymouth Rocks, New Hampshires, Wyandottes, things like that tend to be nice, dual-purpose breeds that have some size to them and their combs aren’t really big, so they can handle winter well and usually lay pretty well.”
