Using European African Swine Fever historical data and spread patterns, Dennis DiPietre and Lance Mulberry hope to gain insight into the unique pathways, natural blocks and accelerated spread corridors within the U.S. In the EU, ASF moves in two distinct ways:
- The first case or two appear suddenly in an area with no discovered disease nearby. The disease gradually spreads out from there in all directions favoring the movement patterns of people and wild boars.
- Movement of contaminated pork by people.
. . . preventing humans from spreading the disease is not feasible.”
