For veterinary teams, pet insurance is a part of meeting the needs of today’s animal owners. A 2022 survey of veterinary professionals revealed:
- More than 90 percent of veterinary teams wish more of their clients had pet insurance.
- 2 percent of veterinary teams believe that pet insurance is a beneficial way to help clients manage the lifetime cost of veterinary care.
- When a client has pet insurance, veterinary teams believe ”owners are less worried about the cost of care recommended” and “owners say yes to recommendations more quickly” than non-insured pet owners
Veterinary teams believe pet insurance “helps pets get the treatment they need” as reported by 94 percent of survey respondents, followed by “<pet insurance> makes cost of care conversations easier.” – Crum and Forester Pet Insurance Group 2022 survey results
These are powerful insights. Yet, only about half of all veterinary practices proactively recommend pet insurance to their clients.
Seeking to learn more about the nuances and experiences of being advocates for pet insurance, ASPCA® Pet Health Insurance field representatives actively sought feedback from veterinary professional advocates during VMX and WVC <Link>.
Continuing discussions have generated shareable experiences from across the U.S. We’ll share some of the feedback in a series of posts as the year progresses to show how some veterinary teams position and present pet insurance in ways that fit well with their current practice routines and protocols.
