Animal health pros see this every day, although most never have a physician ask any questions about pets. We still have a long ways to go to educate and support the health benefits of human-animal bonds while our work continues to optimize overall pet wellness.
The Human Animal Bond Research Institute and Mental Health America recently shared new survey results on the care and resource-related needs of those impacted by mental health related to companion animals. The survey found that pet owners overwhelmingly report positive health benefits resulting from their pets, with 98 percent reporting at least one health benefit, including 73 percent indicating reduced feelings of loneliness.
Pet owners were more likely to self-report good mental health compared to non-pet owners.”
