According to Elizabeth Colleran, DVM, MS, DABVP, AAFP co-chair of Cat Friendly Practices (CFP), this was a long time coming. The CFP program is a collaboration of feline experts who provide guidelines to ensure a more positive and less stressful veterinary experience for cats and their owners.
. . . when cats panic and their cortisol levels skyrocket, the quality of the exam isn’t nearly as good as it might be, and the experience for both cat and client suffers.

The survey found:
- a 99 percent satisfaction rate among participating CFP veterinary clinics
- Certified CFP teams appear more satisfied with their jobs when it comes to cats
- 79 percent of Cat Friendly Practices say they’ve enjoyed increased revenue
- 80 percent say they have received more positive feedback from their clients
- many DVMs are supportive of CFP while veterinary nurses appear convinced of its benefits.
INSIGHTS: To provide a source for accurate and comprehensive information about cats, AAFP now has a consumer website at catfriendly.com <link>. The association launched a newsletter associated with the site, which is opened by 37 percent of recipients.
