The new Hypertension Educational Toolkit will help veterinary professionals diagnose systemic arterial hypertension (hypertension) in cats, according to the American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP).
Assessing blood pressure in the feline species is an important part of feline preventive care, yet it is uncommon for practices to routinely perform this test. This toolkit provides a quick, go-to reference that will help veterinary professionals overcome the difficulties and obstacles associated with assessing blood pressure in cats.” – Kelly St. Denis, MSc, DVM, DABVP (Feline)
Source: AAFP, February 23, 2021. Link. Veterinary professionals can easily view, download, and print (PDF format) the Hypertension Toolkit from the AAFP website. The AAFP also provides responses to common cat caregiver questions, and resources to help them better understand the causes, signs and symptoms, testing, and treatment of hypertension. Resources and flyers can be found at catfriendly.com/feline-hypertension.
INSIGHTS: Consider asking a senior-level veterinary nurse or new practitioner to review the resources offered from AAFP. Too frequently, good resources such as these are not fully reviewed and put to good use. Have the person reviewing the resources share an overview of the most useful info at a staff meeting.
