PetMD’s Dr. Hanie Elfenbein, DVM, PhD, reminds dog owners that poor oral hygiene has also been linked to other health issues in dogs, including diabetes and heart disease, and it might even lead to a broken jaw. Dogs are experts at hiding pain, so owners may not even realize there’s a problem.
